Parent guidance...
For the past 30 years, Free State Care in Action has
been presenting parent guidance programmes to strengthen the parenting skills of
parents. Parent guidance lectures compiled by experts are used for this purpose.
Excerpts from these lectures are published daily in the Volksblad under the
heading “Jy en Jou Kind”. These excerpts were so popular among members of the
public that they have been published for sale in book form.
“You and Your Child” Volume 1 focuses on toddlers and
preschool children, and Volume 2 focuses on teenagers. Volume 1 has also been
translated into Sotho, and can be purchased at the Head Office. Themes covered
by parent guidance lectures include the following: discipline, assistance with
schoolwork, sex education, the influence of TV on the child, cell phone
pornography, the reconstituted family, single parenting, drug abuse, etc.
Parents meet on a regular basis under the guidance of trained group leaders to
obtain more knowledge, share their experiences and support one another. Parent
guidance seminars are presented regularly to meet the needs of a broader target
market.
